Next: Brokaw Blames Jews for Holocaust?

By Joe Giardiello

The major news network anchors had two choices following the revelations that CBS and Dan Rather used forged documents to assist John Kerry in the presidential election.  They could have taken the high road, acknowledged the deception and called on Dan Rather to do the right thing and resign; or they could have closed ranks and attempted to perpetuate the liberal domination of television news for a little bit longer.

We now know their decision.  They are circling the wagons in defense of Rather.  But worse than that – they are labeling as the villains the very people who exposed the fraud in the first place.  Because if you believe NBC’s Tom Brokaw, it is the “Internet” that is to blame.

According to the Associated Press:

The NBC anchor blasted what he called an attempt to "demonize" CBS and Rather on the Internet, where complaints about the report first surfaced. Brokaw said the criticism "goes well beyond any factual information."

"What I think is highly inappropriate is what is going on across the Internet, a kind of political jihad ... that is quite outrageous," he said at a panel on which all three men spoke.
  (Emphasis added)

“Political jihad”?   Just exactly who is doing the demonizing here?  Someone who spends as much time following the news as Tom Brokow presumably does should probably have a clue how inflammatory such a statement is.  But no bother to Brokow.  What's next?  Saying the Jews were responsible for the Holocaust?

Not that it really needs to be said again, but just for the sake of argument:  There is no conceivable way that CBS did not know those memos were forgeries.  They were exposed as such within hours of their public release.  The only logical conclusion, therefore, is that CBS and Dan Rather knew exactly what they were doing – attempting to defeat President Bush.

Brokaw is right about one thing.  There is something outrageous going on but it has nothing to do with exposing Dan Rather as a crass partisan.  And all this time we thought it was Rather who reported a story that went “well beyond any factual information.”

But I guess from their point of view the exposure was a sort of holy war against their bias and prejudices.  The very people who exposed Rather's faked documents are now the bad guys. But not just bad guys; apparently they are something akin to Muslin fanatics.

But that’s all in a days work for the folks down at CBS and NBC.
